X ray is a huge problem!
It is way more damaging than Greif !
It can not be solved with a simple rb.
remember the last map x-rayed diamond made the price in auction super low!
Staff are doing a great job trying to stop it.
But they don't have many tools at their disposal.( correct me if I'm wrong) This thread is for sugestions to help with the problem

Engine mode 4 would stop xraying completely, only problem being it would affect legitimate players based on their latency (Waiting to see if a block really is diamond or just stone etc)

Couldnt it be made so it only sends diamond ores back if you are in the chunk (or even closer) to give time to get to the ore so it would have changed by the time you get to it. I realise this would somewhat reduce the effectiveness off the mod but it would still make xraying harder and people would probably give up/go to another server.
Doubt it. Think, if someone likes a server so much as to try to get diamonds on it, why would they so willingly switch servers?
Well from what ive heard people that xray generally are people who come onto servers quietly and make mines and find tonnes of diamonds before they leave.
i think mode 2 on that would be fairly effective...
Yeah I really hate X-rayers. I find tons of diamonds legitly, and it takes me awhile. Then I found the price going super-low do to people who x-ray. I end up selling diamonds for like, 20 gil each, which is not how it used to be. Couldn't we get rid of texture packs on orcworm all together? I don't know if thats possible, but it would be effective.
that wouldnt be possible from my current understanding of how minecraft operates, but if the server can hide the ores until a block adjacent to them has been edited... i think that *might* work rather well.

Thats actually a great idea, Ciphon, if we could find a way to do it. But i'm not entirely sure, you should ask orc.

Also, I hope something can be done soon. The price of diamonds has really deflated. I auction them, and once I sold 1 for 5, and another time i sold em for 8 gil.
The plugin above is the only way from a technical point of view, but I get the feeling you'd rather live with us catching xrayers rather than having every block look like ore until you mine it (This would also affect chests until you right click them).
frist of all thanks Orc for reopening the thread
I really wanted to get a Discussion going about the issue
If that is the only way we know of.
does any know any other ways
is there any thing the good citizens of orcworm can do to help
Well orc, I don't think it would work like that. Isn't there a way to just hide the ore, make it blend in untill you mine a block adjacent to it?

Yes, but that doesn't mask every ore, ores in natural cave pockets would still show up for example. Xrayers would still be able to pick out some ores and it'd b e harder for us to catch them ;p.
Well, some is better than nothing i guess.

We can't stop all kinds of cheating, just limit them as best as we can.

Possibly the same as mode 4 of the other plugin but it sounds like it would solve the majority of xraying at least.
Ores will become visible under any of these circumstances:
- A surrounding block is lit by torch and player is within the chunk or adjacent chunk and within 16 blocks to player on Y axis.
- A surrounding block is lit by a third block broken falling or removed by explosion and player is within the chunk or adjacent chunk and within 16 blocks to player on Y axis (occurs once every 2 seconds, but configurable).
- A surrounding block is broken or falls or removed by explosion
- A surrounding block is changed by another plugin (can be cpu intensive if you worldedit a big area for instance - might do a workaround for this)
Also, having ores not show unless there is light near it and the player is in the chunk is a good thing, I mean, who mines without torches anyway? Tongue
