Here's my mobspawner i built in a day, the spawn rate could be higher (next version will have another spawning system under the towers), but it will help you learn how to build a mob spawner. My design features 3 spawning towers, which carts the mobs to one location with toggleable hand-kill and automated killing systems.

If you switch it to hand kill yeah. next version will damage the mobs more.
