This will help in a handful of ways like reducing the amount of grief, helping other players with commands and making everyone on the server happier.

Fillerb killed mods, godj brought them back. Personally I think Grintendo would make a great mod.
I think having mods back is a great idea. The Staff could use a little break and this allows more grief and other problems to be fixed in a shorter amount of time.
FillerB didn't have a reason for having the Mod/Admin system. I spoke to Orc about the Worldy and previous Admin/Mod system in place, and he said it had no purpose. This time, the Moderator system does have a purpose. To fully evaluate a person's competence, dealings with grief and rule breaking. I'm happy to see that it's back and that it actually serves a purpose. It also makes the voting for new Staff more definite and we wouldn't just be guessing about a person's integrity.

so long as moderator is not being given out to every Suzy Sally on the block, and they are being watched to avoid more "lizardmans" i can't see a tremendous downside to this.

Fillerb randomy said lets end. Orcworm started the sytem.There was a difference as we said back then, mods were like 2 months on the team while admins had been around for 5-6 months and were experienced... A bit before that too they had /i, world edit, and /money grant while mods just had /ban etc.
The hole Moderator idea is a Very good idea indeed, since if one thing is for certain, We NEED more Staff. How to we get staff? well we test some people, and then decide if they are good enough for the work.
Its a good way to prove that you can! :-)

Introducing the moderators again is in my opinion a very good idea, because there's not enough staff at certain times and selecting some moderators will fill up the needs for new staff. At the same time I think moderators would have a greater chance of getting known to the commands and such and have a more streamlined introducing to the tasks of moderators and/or staff (?).
Bubba you can apply no matter what ure rank is. And I'm not to sure about this idea it could either go great or terribly wrong. I really hope the staff pick the right people or as ciphon said we could have more lizard_men
Moderators sound like a good idea indeed. There are loads of griefers and hackers (mostly X-Ray) so we also need enough people to, lets say, 'fight' them.
This will also help Staff to reduce the stress with things like ban appeals or if many people want help in-game.
I wasn't around when mods were but I think it's an interesting concept and would like to see it on the server.
