Is a VPS how a server like this is run?

Yes. Orc is in England, while the server is in Germany.

These forums and the servers all run off this server he rents. (Not cheaply.)

Thats why I have a ping of almost zero.

To be fair I do have a spare dedi I'm not doing much with (apart from torrenting as much as possible), you can play about with it if you want.

dedi is short for Dedicated Server

'Virtual host' is what you would class as the dedicated server.

People like to throw the term 'dedicated server' around in regards to minecraft hosting but in the majority of cases they're just sharing a virtual host with 20-30 others for the task of running minecraft (hence dedicated to minecraft, but not a true dedicated server).

So you're saying you have an extra Virtual Host that i could use allowing people to join the Hamachi Server i just created?

The former, yes, the latter, no. The dedicated server is the server. I haven't a clue how well it will perform thus the need for testing with real players.

Pretty much, you get a free server for a month or so and I get the results.

That actually sounds great! I'd love to learn more about this stuff and if it benefits this server then that's just killing 2 birds with 1 stone. I just need to know what exactly i'd have to do in order for this to work.
