We caused this mess, we should clean it up and stop it from happening again.
That doesn't answer my question. Who are we cleaning it up for? Soon we'll develop practical space travel and we'll gain the ability to colonize other worlds. Why does it matter if the Earth gets fucked over?
We're cleaning it up for the Earth. It's not ours so that mess shouldn't be there.

Let's say you rent someone's cabin for a weekend. You're not going to go there, make a huge mess, then leave without cleaning it up.

It's not 100% certain that we'll develop practical space travel so we should keep the place that we are "renting" clean for future generations/species.
But if we're dead anyways, how will we be punished for leaving it as a mess?

This earth is our home, but the only real value that it has in this universe is our own sentimental value. And it is inevitable that humans will one day face extinction.

And another thought to consider chazdude: if time is infinite, and space is infinite, shouldn't there be infinite earths recreated throughout time? What are the chances of our galaxy being formed? 1/10000000000000000000 i know it's way more just saying? No matter what it is, given infinite time, the odds will eventually reoccur. Just something to think about
"you're just soft"

How true. Real men don't need scientific studies of the solar system, worldwide telecommunications, military intelligence, television or Earth monitoring for weather or climate studies.

These things aren't responsible for the preservation of the lives of millions of humans, no, of course not! Fuck satellites!

I like you

My Theory : (and if any of you remember this from the last forum) That we all live one life, then another, then another, then yet another. Until we have become ONE perfect human. and there is no we. there is only one. one living as many. you are hitler. you are his killer. you are obama, you are his wife, you are everyone in this world. you are everything, only to be shaped into a being like God, to be a perfect living being, then to rule your own kin, your child as the process we are going through now.
I have thought over your theory before projectG, te thought of one as all is familiar to me, though I don't know if I firmly believe it.

Btw hitler and hitlers killer are the same person.

The chance of our galaxy being formed is actually 100% because it happened and we have no proof (underlined right there but on phone so cba to bbcode) that there were previous big bangs so in our 1 occurrence of the universe, the chance of our galaxy/life being produced is 100% ;)

"Soon"
Unless you're talking about inhabiting Mars, the nearest solar system with planets on it is 10.5 light years away. It's going to be a very, very long time before we can travel that far, if we are alive to do it and it is possible.

On another note, your logic is flawed. Why make the earth a crappy place to live? If you're renting an apartment, you don't just shit all over the floor and say "I'm moving out soon so it doesn't matter." You're still walking in your own shit. To be honest, I don't think space junk is a really big issue, but there is a difference between using resources wisely and giving off waste necessary for progress. Also, why do we need to leave this planet? Why not use the millions of dollars funding those projects to make life on earth better? Why not use it to clean up the water systems to drink? Why not use it to feed people starving in the streets? I'm not saying the space projects shouldn't get funding, but using it to make a way off this planet seems like a waste to me.
This stuff is something so complex to think about, nobody can truly be right and wrong about what is actually going to happen. I'm not a religious person, so i tend to stick to scientific theories and all, but that isn't to say that scientists are going to be right. With the amount of effort it takes to "clean" up what has already been done, it just doesn't seem plausable. Sure, we can aid the process but it's not going to completely change the way everything goes. Plus, 9 billion doesn't seem like that large of a number....i feel as if Earth is capable of holding more.
I know i'm just being a contrarian

You "feel" that the Earth can hold over 9 billion people? You need a reason as to why you think that or no one will take it seriously.
>Implying this forum is always serious

Just think about it. More people = more clearing of land = destroying habitats of other species = extinction of species

More people = more people who drop out of school, get into drugs, and try to make other people feel sorry for them.

More people = more consumption of food/water = more poverty

More people = need for more land and we don't have an infinite amount of land.

And then you get into the size of the Earth and how many people can actually fit on it but I'm not going to go into that.
