Minecraft Redstone Block Detection? - gamemaster1494 - 01-29-2012

So i saw this video on youtube. It shows a slot mashine system, that detects if the block is gold, diamond, or iron... I can't find a tutorial on this.... Anyone know how to do it? Or know a video that shows how to? Please tell me. I would like to know. Thanks. =)

That looks like a very hard machine to make. I give credit to whoever first made that but I'm really bad at this sort of thing so im no use.

Ok so I'm no expert but I'm decent enough at redstone and I'm 97% sure there is no way to detect what block it is, this system most likely uses a binary counter on each one and knowing the order each "reel" is in the machine can then figure out which one it is. From there it is just some simple 'and' gates. Don't ask me to make it because I'm not the greatest with binary. I may be completely wrong as to how it works, but that is my best guess.
