New Gaming Headset - DoughnutSpanker - 02-26-2012

Looking for a new one, my old one broke.

I'd like it under $60 USD.

Any ideas?

g35s have served me faithfully, they start to hurt after a few hours, but not terribly.
They go for ~75$ but if you look

you can usually find a good deal

How well does it sound? Is the 7.1 surround actually worth the money?

EDIT: Bah, I want to get it, however my dad won't let me, and says I already have one. He knows its broken too.. >_>

They're actually 5.1. The guy on eBay is trying to talk them up.

I use them, and have for about a year now (coming up on it in june?). So, not a year, but long enough to critique them.

I fucking love them. Honestly, dude. They are very environment-proof. Their 5.1 surround sound setting (you just have to flick a switch in the back of the left monitor) is fantastic for gaming (served me amazingly in plenty of scrims in BF:BC2 and CS 1.6 (even though unnecessary)). The microphone is very clear, but doesn't pick up too much bass. I have a very bassy voice, but this headset doesn't pick it all up. I think it's due to the way they block sound outside this like radius around the microphone. That's another thing, it doesn't pick up background sound unless you've got bandmembers in your room blasting your amplifier. (........)

If you're looking for a great pair that will last you a long time, definitely pick up the G35s.

In fact, doughnut, if it makes a difference for you at all, sometimes I get lazy and don't plug in my Shure SRH440s and just use my G35s for music production (last song, G35s were used to make it). The sound is flat (on default setting), with no frequency clashing. You can, naturally, boost your settings, but I don't recommend that if you're playing a game (easy to set them and stuff).

And a final bonus: You have the voice morpher. I have a recording of OnlyMe singing 'Still Alive' in the Space Squirrel setting. Fucking amazing.

Bahahahahaha. Oh, you're in for a world of awesome. If you use it in-game, just make sure the audio settings in the game are set for surround sound (usually: home theatre = 5.1, cinema = 7.1 (really depends on the game), unless it just says "5.1, 7.1"). Note: If you have in-game settings set to surround sound, you will hear all the "mono" sounds (not "mono," but sounds that are equal panning in both the left and right monitors (e.g.: your gun firing, or your character moving)) in your right ear if you do not switch on the surround sound.
