System Shock 2 and Thief 2 Reborn

Long story short, some random French guy made an incredible overhaul for Thief 2 and System Shock 2. With his update, the games now run flawlessly on modern systems, and the max polycount is now 10x larger.

If you've never played these games, there's never been a better time to start

System Shock 2 was made by Irrational Games, and their later game Bioshock was a spiritual successor.

Thief 2 is often thought of as the best stealth game of all time, made by Looking Glass Studios. It's known for enormous levels, a heavy focus on nonlinearity and nonlethality, and loads of secrets.
