Mycil question - Mooshrooms

First, sorry if I spell mycilium wrong...
Alright, here's my Q - If you have mycilium growing in a biome other than the mycil one, say on my island in the middle of the ocean, will Mooshroom still spawn naturally? Could I use a spawner if they won't?

dirt with no grass on it wil, change into mycilium
but i would say buy a spawner and try it

Ha, "buy" a spawner. They are really easy to get in the wild. But thanks, I'll try next chance I get.
